Roto-moulding is a process for manufacturing hollow plastic products. This method has particular advantages in terms of relatively low levels of residual stresses and inexpensive molds. The process involves loading a two part metal mould with a predetermined quantity of fine polymer powder. The mould is then heated externally to a high temperature and rotated on both axis, as the polymer melts it adheres to the inner surface of the mould, this continues until an even layer of plastic is formed over the surface of the mould.
After a given length of time the metal mould is cooled and when the plastic inside has become solid, the mould could can be removed from the chamber and split open. The plastic component is (example, a water tank) is then removed from the mould and allowed to finish the cooling process. The plastic is formed without pressure and as a result has very low moulded in stresses.
Muna Noor stock a number of sizes of water tank moulds, please ask your local representative for further information.
Muna Noor is very happy to provide a bespoke roto-moulding service whereby we construct tooling for the part you require and manufacture the product on your behalf. Please contact us with your designs for a feasibility study.
